What this site is

Explore Health Data Across 3,144 County Records

HealthByCounty is independently published data journalism. We take the public-health statistics that the federal government already collects — life expectancy, uninsured rates, primary-care access, air quality — and present them per county so a regular person can compare places to live, evaluate healthcare access in a region they're considering, or simply check how their own county stacks up nationally. Every statistic is attributed to its source.

Pick any county and you get its life expectancy, the share of adults reporting poor or fair health, the uninsured rate, primary-care and mental-health provider density per 100,000 residents, and a composite 0–100 Health Score that ranks the county against every other county in the United States. Use the search above, or browse by state.

Our data sources are the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps 2025 program, the federal CMS NPPES provider registry, and EPA AirNow air-quality monitoring. The composite-score formula, weighting, and known limitations are documented on the methodology page. The site is published by the HealthByCounty Editorial Team, which maintains data ingestion, the scoring methodology, and the corrections process. HealthByCounty is not a clinical resource and does not provide medical advice; see our editorial standards for the full policy.
