Key Findings

Health outcomes vary dramatically across the United States. Rhode Island leads with an average health score of 92.0 across its counties, while Mississippi trails at 18.3. District of Columbia has the best primary care access with 129 providers per 100,000 residents, compared to just 38 in Oklahoma.

Nationally, counties average a health score of 50.0, a life expectancy of 75.1 years, and an uninsured rate of 10.5%. But these averages obscure the reality: some counties enjoy life expectancies above 85 years with near-universal insurance coverage, while others fall below 72 years with uninsured rates exceeding 25%.
